How Much Time Does Band Take Up?
Beginning band meets 50 minutes, every day during an exploratory period. The first year of band, students will have two evening performances and two rehearsal. That's a total of around 4 hours of after school time. The second and third year is the same with one or two additional performance and two or three additional rehearsals for a total of about 6-8 hours of after school time. In other words: YES YOU CAN DO SPORTS, DANCE CLASS, BOYSCOUTS/GIRLSCOUTS, UNDERWATER BASKET WEAVING, ETC... However, I do ask that students practice! - just like they would take the time to do Math or English homework, they should also take the time to learn to read music and play their instrument(s).
So, you don’t know what instrument you want to play?
No problem.
Do some research…
I suggest that students spend some time researching the instrument that they would like to play. Use any internet search engine and type in the name of the instrument that you are curious about. I have provided a picture and short description of the instruments under the instruments tab above that you will be able to choose from. You can also listen to each instrument by clicking on the play icon below each instrument name. It is also recommended that you watch some great performances. Videos are provided on each instrument page.
